The Federal Government has finally paid the 800m naira ransom that was bargained and agreed on with the leader of the Fulani herdsmen, Miyetti Allah.
Amidst the Fulani herdsmen saga in the country, the sacking of the herdsmen from Ibarapa, Oyo state and the unrest that has occurred due to tribal clashes, the federal government thinks paying these people off is the best decision to take and the way out of insecurity in Nigeria.
The reactions from Nigerians have been all shades of anger. They think the government doesn’t reason logically, and paying a group of people who have posed as threats to national security overtime and caused irreparable havoc allover is a really unwise and in fact, ridiculous decision.
They think this is a step towards giving more room to new sectors of terrorists group, and therefore making Nigeria generally unsafe for any living being.
They recall months back when the federal government went back and forth with ASUU as regards paying up the large sum of money they owe. They bargained from 1.1trillion naira which has been accumulating over the years to 40billion naira which they still find hard to pay up at once.
Nigerians believe the government is set on misplaced priorities and wonder about what the future holds for them.
