Donald Trump, the 73 year old American President was born on the 14th of June, 1946. He was sworn in as the 45th President of the United States on the 20th of January, 2017.

Before taking the highest office in the country, Trump was successful as a real estate mogul and reality TV personality.

Donald Trump’s Biography

Donald Trump was born in Queens, New York, in 1946. He was born to Frederick C. Trump and Mary Anne MacLeod Trump. He was the 4th of 5 children.

His father, Frederick Trump was a successful builder and real estate developer. His mother, Mary MacLeod migrated from Tong, Scotland, in the year 1929 when she was 17.

She married Fred Trump in 1936, and the couple settled in Jamaica, Queens. Donald Trump was raised Presbyterian by his mother, and he identifies as a mainline Protestant.

As a child, Donald Trump was energetic and assertive. At 13, he was sent to the New York Military Academy by his parents, with the hope that the discipline of the school would channel his energy in a positive manner.

While at the academy, Trump performed well both socially and academically and rose to become a student leader and a star athlete by the time he graduated in 1964.

Donald Trump then proceeded to Fordham University before transferring to the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania two years later.

He graduated from Wharton with a degree in Economics in 1968. During summer, the young Donald Trump worked at his father’s real estate business while he was at college and was able to secure education deferments for the draft for the Vietnam War and ultimately a 1-Y medical deferment after he graduated.

Business Career

In 1971, Donald Trump took over his family’s real estate business. He soon renamed it The Trump Organization and expanded it from Queens and Brooklyn into Manhattan.

The company took charge of building or renovating skyscrapers, hotels, casinos, and golf courses. In Manhattan especially, Trump became involved in large, profitable building projects and when he opened the Grand Hyatt New York in 1980, he became the city’s best-known developer.

Donald Trump later delved into various side ventures, mostly by licensing his name. Between 1996 and 2015, Donald Trump owned the Miss Universe and Miss USA beauty pageants.

Donald Trump is currently married to former Slovenian model Melania Trump (née Knauss). She is his third wife and is more than 23 years younger than Donald.

Melania has a son with Donald Trump who goes by the name Barron William Trump. He was born in March 2006.

Donald Trump’s first marriage was to Ivana Trump, (née Zelnickova Winklmayr). She is a New York fashion model who had been an alternate on the 1972 Czech Olympic Ski Team. They got married in 1977 and have 3 children together named Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump, and Eric Trump. Donald’s marriage to Ivana would later collapse and their highly publicized divorce was finalized in 1992.

The following year which is 1993, Trump married Marla Maples and she became his second wife. Prior to marrying her legally, Marla and Trump had been together for some time. They welcomed a daughter together who goes by the name Tiffany Trump shortly before they got married in 1993. 4 years later, Trump filed for divorce from Maples. The divorce was finalized in 1999.

After Donald Trump took office as the 45th President of America, his sons, Donald Jr. and Eric took over the running of the Trump Organization as executive vice Presidents. His Daughter Ivanka was also in a similar role as an executive vice president of The Trump Organization, but left the business as well as her own fashion label to join her father’s administration.


She currently serves as an unpaid assistant to the president. Ivanka’s husband Jared Kushner also serves as a senior adviser to President Trump.

Political Career

Donald Trump’s first incursion into politics was in 2000. He sought the nomination for the Reform Party for the 2000 presidential race but withdrew.

In 2012, he again publicly announced he would be running for president in the 2012 election but did not eventually. In 2015 however, he did just that.

He announced his intention to vie for office of the president of the United States of America on the Republican ticket. He eventually secured the presidential ticket of the Republican party after winning a majority of the primaries and caucuses and became the official Republican candidate for president on the 19th of July, 2016.

He squared off against a well known political gladiator in person of Hillary Clinton who flew the flag of the Democrats.

Trump however emerged victorious and was elected the 45th President of the United States. He was sworn in on 17th January 2017 as the 45th President of the United States. Trump’s rule as American president has not been smooth as his administration has been enmeshed in quite a number of controversies.

Trump himself is not one to shy away from controversy and is quick to react to issues. He is well known for his usage of social media especially Twitter to make his opinion known.

Several of his staffs and senior aides have either been quickly fired or resigned under suspicious circumstances. The most serious Trump scandals so far are tied to the alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 election which brought Trump to power.

There have been allegations against President Trump that he is trying to undermine the investigation into the matter with some members of his own administration growing concerned about his behavior.

FBI Director James Comey was fired by President Trump in May 2017 and he laid the blame at the feet of senior Justice Department officials for the move.


Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn was appointed national security adviser in November 2016, few days after the presidential election.

He lasted only 24 days on the job before turning in his resignation. It was discovered that Flynn had lied to Vice President Mike Pence and other White House officials about his meetings with a Russian ambassador to the United States following a report by the Washington Post.

Trump pledged to build a wall between US and Mexico during his election campaign in a bid to tackle illegal migration from the latter. He is still fighting for that wall to be built.

Trump also signed a highly controversial Muslim travel ban executive order in Jan 2017. The move was met with stiff opposition. There were threats of possible war with North Korea during the early days of the Trump administration but things are much improved now between the two countries.

Currently, Donald Trump’s administration is embroiled in a major trade war with China. Also, tension is growing between America and Iran with military option a remote possibility.

Donald Trump’s net worth as of 2019 is put at $3.1 billion according to Forbes. This makes him the 715th richest person in the world, and 259th in the U.S.

Donald Trump once had to overcome debt of nearly $900 million, with the Trump Organization requiring a massive infusion of loans to keep it from collapsing. He managed to keep the company afloat and turn things around.
